About these rankings

How are these stock rankings calculated?

Each list sorts the same universe on a single published figure: market capitalisation, average daily dollar volume, one-year price volatility, year-over-year revenue growth, or trailing P/E. The figure is shown beside every company, together with the median for its sector, so any rank can be checked against the underlying data. There is no blended or predictive score.

Which stocks are included?

The largest 1,000 US-listed companies by market capitalisation, which currently means a market cap above about $7.3B. Companies with more than one share class are listed once. Smaller companies are left out because their trading is thinner and their reported figures are less complete.

Why rank by volatility instead of beta?

Volatility is calculated directly from each stock's daily closing prices over the last year, so it can be reproduced from public data. Beta depends on the window and benchmark chosen, and published beta figures for some foreign listings and recent IPOs do not match how the stock has actually traded.

Is a high ranking a recommendation?

No. A rank states where a company sits on one measurement on one date. It says nothing about whether the stock suits any particular investor, and the figures can be delayed or revised. DeltaScreener does not provide investment advice.
