Graham-Style Defensive Stocks
Simplified Graham defensive screen: P/E under 15, P/B under 1.5, current ratio over 2, debt-to-equity under 0.5. This is a free, ready-made stock screen on DeltaScreener that filters 5,000+ NYSE & NASDAQ stocks in real time. Stocks appear here only because they match the filters in the search query below; the screen name is a label for those criteria, not a rating of any stock. Click any company to see its full financials, or edit the filters to make the screen your own.
Benjamin Graham's rules for the defensive investor in The Intelligent Investor include a P/E under 15, price-to-book under 1.5, a current ratio above 2 and modest debt. This is a simplified version: it applies those four tests plus a $300M size floor, but not his requirements for 10 years of earnings, 20 years of dividends or earnings growth, which our data does not cover. Any stock meeting both the P/E and P/B limits also trades below its Graham number, since 15 times 1.5 equals 22.5.
